The Bellingham Herald: Bicycle, vehicle collision in Bellingham reminds drivers, cyclists to use caution

HANNAH BOSTWICK – THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

BELLINGHAM – A mid-day collision between a bicycle and car should remind cyclists and drivers to be aware of each other at all times, Bellingham Police spokesman Mark Young said.

At about 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, a Nissan Sentra southbound on Indian Street made a left turn onto East Laurel Street, striking a cyclist who was heading northbound on Indian Street, Young said.

The cyclist was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for a leg injury, and the driver was cited for failure to yield during a left-hand turn and for no proof of insurance, Young said.

“This is just another reminder to drivers to use extra care and caution when driving in areas with a higher density of pedestrians or cyclists,” Young said.

Young also reminds bicyclists to use caution, wear bright clothing and be alert to what drivers are doing by maintaining eye contact with oncoming vehicles.
