KGW: Cyclist hit by car at crosswalk in Gresham

GRESHAM, Ore. – A bicyclist was seriously hurt after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Gresham Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses told Gresham Police the man was riding northbound in a crosswalk at SE Stark and SE 187th where one vehicle was stopped, when another car came through in the other lane and hit him.

The victim was identified as 52-year-old Daniel Ornelas.

Police said he was not wearing a helmet and officers said he suffered serious head injuries. The cyclist was conscious and breathing at the time of the crash, then taken to Oregon Health Sciences University.

Investigators said they did not think alcohol was involved.

The victim’s name was not released.
