Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel: Mionske moves to Bicycling Magazine
By Tom Held of the Journal Sentinel
Feb. 9, 2009
Wisconsin native Bob Mionske has changed cycling teams, in a journalistic sense.
The lawyer and cycling advocate penned his last “Legally Speaking” column for Velo News last week, and will soon begin writing on cycling and the law for Bicycling Magazine. Mionske says the online version of his new column should start March 1 and the print version will hit the presses in May.
Mionske grew up near Lake Geneva and began bike racing during his years at UW-Madison. He raced in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, then earned his law degree and began a practice devoted to cycling in Portland, Ore.
He has become an authoritative voice on the legal aspects of cycling – from cyclist rights, to legislation to enforcement.
His final essay for Velo News serves as a “state of cycling” address. He cheers the increase in people turning to cycling for transportation and laments the lack of laws and law enforcement to protect them.
It’s good to know that he hasn’t left the peloton of advocates, but will remain at the front, merely in a different jersey.
