BALTIMORE — A Johns Hopkins University student who was hit by an 83-year-old woman in a car while he was riding his bike in February has died.
Nathan Krasnopoler, 20, of Ellicott City, had been in a coma since the incident. He died Wednesday morning.
Krasnopoler was riding his bike in the bike lane on West University Parkway on Feb. 26 when police said 83-year-old Jeanette Walke crossed into the bike lane and hit Krasnopoler, trapping him under her car.
Walke was cited in April for negligent driving and failure to yield the right-of-way to a bicyclist. Each violation carried a $500 fine and three points on a driver’s license.
Officials said no further charges will be filed in light of the 20-year-old’s death.
Krasnopoler’s family has sued Walke for $10 million.
Krasnopoler was studying computer science and math at Johns Hopkins. His family said he loved cooking, especially desserts, and would cook pies as gifts for his friends at school.
“Nathan was a student of great promise and a fine young man, well-loved by his family and by his many friends at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere,” said Nicholas P. Jones, dean of the Whiting School of Engineering.
His family said he also enjoyed music, reading science fiction novels, biking and walking.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday at Sol Levinson’s Funeral Home in Pikesville.
A memorial fund has been established in Krasnopoler’s name that will benefit the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery.
