The Highway Patrol is investigating what was a hit and run accident in Greenville Sunday afternoon. The incident happened around noon at the intersection of Hicks Road and Augusta Road. Witnesses at the scene told troopers, a small pickup truck and bicycle were traveling in the same direction on Augusta when the truck swerved into the path of the bicycle, severely injuring the rider. The truck then left the scene.
Erin Slaton, 31, of Greenville has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Bodily Injury and Driving Too Fast for Conditions. Slaton claims he left the scene of the accident because he was “scared”; he may face additional charges.
The cyclist, Steven Peppers, 37, is in critical condition, according to a spokeswoman for Greenville Hospital System.
