OTTAWA — Three cyclists were involved in separate accidents with motor vehicles within about an hour late Thursday afternoon.
A 31-year-old cyclist was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Carleton Cathcart Street in Stittsville around 5 p.m. He was transported by air ambulance to hospital, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. An investigation is under way.
An hour earlier, a teenager on a mountain bike collided with an eastbound car on Baseline Road, east of Pinecrest Road. The youth was coming out of the Pinecrest Cemetery when he struck the side of the car, according to the driver, who identified himself only as Alex.
The teen was taken by ambulance to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital with what is believed to be a minor injury to his arm.
Around the same time, a child on a bicycle was involved in an accident at Trim Road and Innes Road. The youth, wearing a helmet at the time, was not injured, but was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario as a precaution, police said.
The mishaps come after a summer of several tragic accidents involving Ottawa cyclists. Earlier this month, 34-year-old public servant Melanie Harris was killed in a collision with a Gatineau city bus in front of the Lester B. Pearson building on Sussex Drive.
Five cyclists suffered serious injuries when they were struck by a minivan on March Road in July.
Two days later, a 22-year-old rider was struck on Blair Road and later died in hospital.
