Police Say Driver Acted Recklessly, Bicyclists Threatened Driver With Rocks

RYE, N.H. — Rye police have arrested three people in connection with a road-rage incident earlier this month.
One person was the driver of a car, and the other two were bicyclists. Police said several bicyclists were riding along Route 1A when the driver of the car acted recklessly behind them.
Police said two of the bicyclists put their bikes in the middle of the road and then threatened the driver with rocks.
Officials said car-bicycle road-rage incidents are becoming more of a problem.
“We’re talking about resources,” said Chief Kevin Walsh. “There were Rye police officers, New Hampshire Fish and Game and Newcastle officers who had to stop what they were doing to deal with this incident. Where, if people just respected one another, we could tend to what we really need to do, which is public safety.”
The driver faces a reckless operation charge. One bicyclist was charged with criminal threatening, and both riders were charged with disorderly conduct.
