The Henley Standard: Cyclist beaten in road rage attack
A CYCLIST was beaten and sworn and spat at during a road rage attack in Henley.
Neil Fairbrother had ridden down White Hill and over Henley bridge when a car cut him up as he approached the crossroads in the centre of town on Sunday morning.
The 46-year-old paid no attention and turned right into Bell Street but the driver turned nasty.
Mr Fairbrother said: “He blew his horn at me and chased me down Bell Street and into Northfield End. I stopped by the mini-roundabout and that is when he attacked me.
“He got out of his car and verbally abused me and spat at me. He then started to pummel me around the head with his fists. Fortunately, my cycle helmet helped to cushion some of the blows.
“It was only when a group of about 15 to 20 cyclists appeared that he backed off and drove away. I would like to thank them for stopping. Without them, it could have been even worse. It was a fierce assault that left me bewildered and bemused.”
Mr Fairbrother, who runs a web television company, has reported the attack to the police.
The car was a silver Audi estate, either an A4 or an A6. The driver is described as over 6ft with a craggy face and a short beard. He was casually dressed and in his late fifties.
