NATICK —
A Bolton woman has been criminally charged with negligent driving after a Nov. 18 accident in South Natick when police say her car struck a bicyclist and seriously injured him.

Lorraine Peterson, 61, will be arraigned in Natick District Court on the criminal charge of negligent driving on April 20, court officials said. Peterson has also been cited for failure to yield and failure to use care in starting, stopping or turning.

The accident occurred on Nov. 18 at 7:25 p.m., when police say Peterson was driving south on Union Street in a 2002 Volvo and stopped at the end of the connector road at Eliot Street, or Rte. 16. Peterson turned left and hit a bicyclist traveling west on Eliot Street.

The bicyclist, a 30-year-old man from Newton, became trapped under the car and was dragged for more than 800 feet before the car came to a stop on Water Street. The man was freed from beneath the car by Natick firefighters and taken by medical rescue helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Peterson was cited by police in December, and was criminally charged during a closed hearing on Feb. 5 in Natick District Court.
