PORTLAND, Ore. — When one Southeast Portland cyclist recently tried to go through a fast-food drive through — she got the message loud and clear that it was cars only.

Sarah Gilbert went to place an order at the Burgerville on Southeast Powell and 25.

After being told the window was for cars only, Gilbert claims workers then shut the window.

An angry Gilbert turned to Twitter and it didn’t take long before the phone rang.

“I got a call from the branch manager and he apologized and told me that he was going to make sure everyone who worked for him knew bikes were welcome,” she says.

Gilbert she’ll go back and hopes soon maybe all drive-throughs can be bike friendly.

“If businesses want to cater to people, all people, not just the one who happen to have a fuel operated vehicle, they’re going to have to open it up.”

A public relations firm in California said they were evaluating the bikes in the drive through internally and expect to have an announcement sometime next week.
