Asian News: Driver who knocked down cyclist banned
October 12, 2009
A MAN who drove off after knocking down a woman cyclist has been banned from driving for six months by Manchester magistrates.
Hassan Rahmani, aged 38, didn’t even bother to speak to Valerie Meats, who ended up in hospital with serious injuries to her leg.
Mrs Meats had been riding home through Newton Heath last May when Rahmani pulled out and struck her front wheel, said prosecutor Sean Brady.
Rahmani, of Oakland Terrace, Rochdale admitted charges of driving without due care and attention and failing to stop and report an accident.
In addition to the ban he was given a 12-month community order along with a six-week 8pm to 7am curfew.
Mr Brady said Mrs Meats sustained various injuries and had to have her leg put in a splint.
In a police statement she said: “The driver never even asked me if I was all right.”
Rahmani claimed that he did speak to the victim and then drove off because he thought she was alright.
