Appleton Post-Crescent: Town of Harrison woman arrested in bicycle hit-and-run

THE POST-CRESCENT • JANUARY 30, 2010

TOWN OF MENASHA — A 22-year-old Town of Harrison woman was arrested for hit-and-run and drunken driving causing injury after striking a man riding a bicycle on Plank Road (State 114) shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The 59-year-old Menasha man riding the bicycle escaped serious injury but his bicycle was extensively damaged after apparently being run over. Police said he was treated by Gold Cross ambulance for minor cuts and bruises before being released.

Police Lt. Rick Leneau said both the woman’s sport utility vehicle and the bicyclist were headed east in the 1500 block of Plank Road when the crash occurred.

Police said the bicyclist, who had lights and reflectors but was not wearing a helmet, was riding on the edge of the roadway between the fog line and the shoulder when struck.

Leneau said the woman did not know she had struck someone but stopped a few miles down the road at Fire Lane 9 because she had a flat tire.

That’s where she was found by a Calumet County sheriff’s deputy who had heard the call for the hit-and-run crash.
